This week new 7th grade Art students will be introduced to the teacher, classroom, essential agreements, assessment criteria and Visual Arts Process Journal. We will be setting ourselves up for success and clarifying expectations for the Trimester. Please let Ms. Newstadt know if you have any questions about the sketchbooks needed for class. firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks!
Prior students can expect to have their work and sketchbooks returned to them sometime next week. Thanks for an awesome learning experience in Visual Art!
On Thursday students worked on their organization of the VAPJ by incorporating a Table of Contents, page numbers, titles for pages, and a check off system for Ms. Newstadt. Students were then introduced to proportion and the idea of guidelines in drawing portraits of dogs! We are working on sketching and then using mixed media and text to complete a full and interesting page in Visual Arts Process Journals. There will be more studio time for completion of this page on Monday.
This week students practiced volume and surface area of prisms, pyramids and composite solids. Students used nets to visualize their surface areas. Below are websites that can support your child’s learning of volume and surface area. The Geometry summative assessment is tentatively scheduled for April 12th.

This week marked the end of our climate change unit. Students consolidated their learning by working collaboratively on creating a poster that illustrates the key concepts from the unit. Climate and our changing climate will continue to be a prevalent theme in our next unit, ecology. On Thursday, students previewed some of the interesting issues in ecology by watching National Geographic’s “Strange Days on Planet Earth”. This segment introduced students to some of the challenges invasive species pose for native wildlife.
