Upcoming Due Dates: Creative Book Report for Roll of Thunder - Due Tuesday, June 14th
This week in English, students finished reading Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. They completed their fifth and final literature circle role for this, and in their groups, they also completed their character analysis for our in-class Hot Seat activity. The Hot Seat was held Wednesday in class, and it was great fun for all of us! :) This was a formative assessment that was also helping students to build on the ATLs of working cooperatively with others, showing perseverance, and practicing effective communication in a group. Students were given an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness and overall quality of their group discussions, as well as their participation in the activities.
Lastly, students were introduced to our final project of the year, the Creative Book Report. Students were able to select one project idea from a list of fifty to demonstrate their comprehension and understanding of the text and its important characters. In addition to completing their project, students are required to incorporate at least two pieces of textual evidence with supporting commentary to support ideas in their projects. These projects will be due Tuesday next week in class and will be students' final summative grade in English class for the year.
Visual Art with Ms. Newstadt
Sixth grade artists continue to explore the Element of Art Value, this time through Color Theory. Students mixed Primary colors (R, B, Y) to make Secondary colors (G, O, V) and Tertiary colors (RO, RV, BG, YG, BV, YO) on a Color Wheel. Next they learned about and mixed Complimentary Colors to make neutrals before creating a free-choice Landscape painting with a foreground, middle ground, and background! The results are beautiful!
Science with Mrs. Gnojewski
This week, students worked on collecting background information for their tectonic hazards assessment. The due date for this assessment has been changed to Tuesday, June 14th due to some technological challenges earlier this week. The links below are great sites for finding information.
