For this, students used their completed evidence from Reading Assignment #2, and they were able to select either of these two characters to focus their argument on. This writing prompt is a summative assessment for our English class.
Here is the graphic organizer students completed as the rough draft of their work, and here is the rubric students will be assessed on. Their final drafts were written in pen and reflect a lot of hard work and learning! I am very proud of their effort on this in class.
Additionally, our class wrapped up our reading of A Long Walk to Water by watching parts of the clips below on the real-life Salva and the work he is doing in South Sudan, as well as the Lost Boys of Sudan.
- Man Digs Own Well to Provide Water for Whole Village
- Water for South Sudan
- Watering the Seeds of Change in Sudan
- From Sudan to the United States
- The Lost Boys, Part 1
After the Fall break, our class will move into our water investigation, where students will be researching a world water problem and eventually proposing a solution for it.
